About Us
San Diego’s Rising Star Dance & Show Entertainers is a 7-member cover band playing party and club hits from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and today, with live horns, 4-part harmonies, choreography, and 3 professional dancer-choreographers onstage.
Rising Star Dance & Show Entertainers is a 7-member cover band from San Diego playing popular party and club hits from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and today. The show includes live horns, 4-part harmonies, and a non-stop choreographed performance. The band also works with 3 professional choreographer-dancers onstage to build the show.
Efren E. Sicat is an original member. When the group performed as Cycles in 1980, he played keyboards and doubled on trumpet. The band changed to its current name in 1987.
Edwin Sicat, also an original member, serves as musical director and plays keyboards, guitar, trumpet, trombone, flute, and vocals.
Jose Del Rosario is a 28-year veteran of Rising Star Entertainers. He has performed professionally four to six shows a week, approximately 42 to 48 weeks a year, since 1976. He was hired as a trombonist, also played keyboards, and worked on programming arrangements for shows.
Leroy Payton, from Oceanside, California, plays saxophone and lead vocals. He worked the San Diego scene since the 80s with the group Forward Motion and joined Rising Star in the early 90s.
Rodney Jones plays drums. A self-taught drummer, he started at age 4, grew up in a family of musicians, and began playing in church and with local groups at 16.
Alicia Hennis handles vocals. She has been singing since early childhood, is a classical pianist who was self-taught at age 5, and grew up around music and the arts. She also sang in church and played piano for the children’s choir.
